Here's How To Create A Coupon So You Can Make Your Own Coupons For Your Marketing...
If you are going to use a coupon in your marketing, it's better to make your own coupons.
For example, if you are going to advertise in ValPak or Money Mailer, and you want to design an advertisement with a coupon, or one giant coupon, your advertising rep will make suggestions for you. This is a fatal mistake because although advertising rep's mean well, they have never owned their own business and do not know anything about direct marketing. Secondly, they want to sell you on a 12 month commitment and ad all kinds of colors and miscellaneous things that are not necessarily in your best interests (they are on commission, have quotas, and must sell certain amounts of add-ons and services).
So the best alternative is for you to make your own coupons. Here are a few tips on how to make your own coupons using the AIDA formula...
- A Headline. Make your headline the best benefit you can think that your prospective customer has in mind. Do not put your company name as the headline.
- Write ad copy that evokes a, "I've got to have that" response and gets them Interested. But don't hype it up. Tell the truth in a compelling way.
- Make an offer they can't refuse. This is either your coupon itself or a killer offer...Desire.
- Give them simple ways to respond and take action. Clip out the coupon, make a clear expiration date and deadline, a free bonus for taking fast action.
Make your own coupons with these tips, and you will see a better response in your coupon marketing efforts.
Bonus Tip: Do not be cute in your marketing, and do not use all kinds of crazy fonts, pictures, and colors. Make it simple to read and follow with your eyes. If you use different style fonts that people are not used to reading and/or make your own coupons hard to follow with the eyes, your response will drop.
